After visiting the Nakuru Lake Park with his imposant animals we returned a last time to Nairobi before reflying to Germany. A last time Paul and Tarcisio repaired our car. A big suprise some hours before our flight back to Germany started. Some members of CWM Nyeri had come the long way to Nairobi to bring us some presents and thank us for coming. Some of us could discover a tear of joy but also for saying good bye and thank you for the
time of partnership with CWM and KAB.

47000 farmers of the area around the national Nzoia Sugar Company carries every the sugar cane to the fabrication. So 500 employees produce 300 tons of sugar every day. We had been fascinated about the output, nevertheless it’s a hard and dangerious work under difficult conditions for the employees.

Our visit in the camp of IDP’s was very depressing. After riots during the votation of president in 2007 the tribes of Kikuyi had been displaced in this tent camp with no work and less water. The children had the possibility to go to the primary school but since it doesn’t work in a normal way. For every family there are one or for bigger families two tents. There is no solution at the moment for these people, no solution by the national government an no solution by other organisations.

First we visited the handycaped school St.Teresia in Webuye. They are ambitionated that the children will learn a handcraft business although in a simple way to start their own existence when they are adults. So it’s the hope that they will be accepted as members in our society. The equipement is donated by the church, nevertheless they need money for a hospital ward.

Harry, the chairman, had organized a workshop with 8 responsible persons of different dioceses with the following questions: „What is church?“, „What is your view of work?“ and „What means to be an employee?“ So German and Kenyan groups gave answers to these questions. Before the workshop started Tarcisio greets the CWM-groups with his important words: “ The CWM is infinitely important for every employee of the sugar fabrication, for the education backround of the children, for food. It’s necessary to force the areas of CWM-dioceses. Without any action there are only dead!“

One example is the catering service organized by Marietta, the wife of Harry together with women, like Nancy,  of the CWM-group. The food will be get by inhouse-production and then prepared for events like weddings. Another important matter for Celestine is the feminist movement. Harry’s reflection of the workshop with important intercommunication between the Kenyian and German participans was: „It’s our aim that every Christian are able to feed himself. The insolvent paper manufacture in Webuye had lost 2000 employees and indirectly again 10.000 people in work. Now all jobs are lost. The crime rate has increased.“

In the evening we saw the dark clouds full of rain but only a few drops are coming down. Elske wrote in their diary a citation of Tarcisio: „If you recognize the Lord, you do the right thing!“

All day long we had been on a trip from Nairobi to Webuye. We passed
the Rift Valley over Nakuru Lake. On lunch time we stopped in Eldoret enjoying a tusker beer. During our trip we saw zebras beside the road. Then a short stopp to meet Father Joseph. He will be adored by CWM because he had activate again the reducing CWM in the 1990- years. Oh, again a stopp. Now the water of our car was overheating. But only a few minutes later a service technican arrived on his motor-bike to help us. Beside the road we see children of the IDP-camps looking for water. In the evening we arrived in our Hotel in Webuye and met already Harry, the chairman and Isaac, the young secretary.

Back in Ruiru we celebrated a church service with the parish of Ruiru. In a procession the priest will be accompanied by young dancing groups.

Afterwards we were invited to plant a tree, a symbol of the partnership between CWM Kenya and KAB Eichstätt. Then we visited the home of Peter and his family. They were very proud to show us there house and the garden. One difficult project of CWM group of Ruiru is to help the abused women. Samuel, Theresia and Bernardette were integrated in this important project.

Agricola, Peter and Tarcisio organized a birthday present for Kurt, who was visible touched.

Again on the earth road. Animals and people had to go for many kilometers to find standpipes. A well was spended by Charles. It was a project of the CWM-group. Josephat, the chairman of Materi gave a fruit of the baobab tree to Dominik as a present. Another presents were given by the members of Materi to us. There had been handmade works made by the members themselves.

After we had a short meeting with Father Kabuti. He planed to build a nursing home, because many old people had difficulties with walking as soon as to reinstruct young boys who had no work.

Next visit was the CWM group in Embu who greet us with songs and drumming music from the Kathari Drummers. Lucius, the Secretary, told us, that 20 families will meet them regulary to organize different Selvehelp-projects, like a home for handycaped children, work in a plantation of bananas or the promotion of education for young people.

A very difficult situation we saw in the Kivuria handicaped school. There are missing water but also money for surgeries and implants or only outfits like schooluniforms.

Fides, the chairwoman invited us for a lunch in their home but with our mind we remembered the children in Kivuria.

A second project, a brick compression machine, was donated by KAB Eichstätt. The members of CWM group of Embu explained to us the different advantages of this machine. So the quality is higher and finaly they could employ new workers.

March, 23th, 2012 in Kenya

After a cartrip of five hours for 50 km on a bumpy earth road we
reached at 23 h in the night the Baobab Lodge. Nevertheless we met us homelike for a dinner and spended our respectful greeting to our driver, Paul, who had permenantly to drive around the deep wholes in the road.

Even in the morning the temperature rose up until 38° degree. The Baobab Lodge around a big and very old baobab tree ist the first lodge for people coming from the east of the country.

In this region is the poverty and the hunger a big problem. Also to bear the grains because of the parasits. A very heartly welcome we got in the group of Marimanti. Charles the chairman of Tharaka and his group invited us to dance with them.

Often the CWM-groups must solve their problems for themselves inspite of the good words of the politicans we met. „The problem isn’t the ground but the missing water and the education“. Tarcisio added, that there will be much money given for a fight against the hunger. Now it’s time to organize a structure. And one woman explained to us, that they are very ashamed, that they must needfully accept our help.
